She values learning opportunities, whether that be through a person or activity, and is a strong advocate for diversity. Alina hopes through her work that people come out finding or learning something new, which can be as simple as “oh, I think I really liked that piece!”

Shaman: Ties to the Beyond
ABSTRACT
Alina Xiong presents Shaman: Ties to the Beyond, a short animation and game demo that walks us through understanding parts of the Hmong culture and spiritual belief; specifically Shamanism. It features three shamans who are traveling in the spirit world to find a powerful, reawakened water dragon that seeks to escape from the spirit world to torment the living.This exhibition aims to create a fun and educational way for Hmong youth & adults to see a reflection of their culture and spiritual belief in video games. So go ahead! Enter the world of Shaman: Ties to the Beyond.Disclaimer: For the purpose of game design, some aspects (e.g., combat) were created for better storytelling and do not necessarily reflect what shamans do or what actually happens in the spirit realm.

Unsure of the unpredictable future, Alina seeks to find a career that allows her creativity to still stay strong. She hopes to publish more of her illustrations and webtoon/stories, reaching to those here in Minnesota and around the world. Though she has no plans on moving out of Minnesota any time soon, Alina would love to travel the world.
