THESIS EXHIBITION
Once Upon A Time: An Exploration on Modern Manuscript Creation
ABSTRACT
Once Upon A Time: An Exploration on Modern Manuscript Creation takes a look at the production of a medieval manuscript using modern techniques and content. Taking The Tale of Desperaux, a modern beloved children’s story, Molly applies the medieval treatment to it through calligraphy, letterpress printing, and book binding. In her time at the University of Minnesota, Molly has come to appreciate the effort and craftsmanship that was needed to create a manuscript in medieval Europe. Combining her love for history and design into one project, Molly created Once Upon A Time as a way to bring new appreciation and understanding to the work and process required to create these works of art. Once Upon A Time is a labor of love, care, and attention to detail and brings a modern story to life in a medieval way.
